New Year’s resolution: Get your office organised!

You probably know this: A new year is just around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about what you should change to make 2016 your most successful year yet. Why not start a scanning routine for your office to improve organisation and eliminate the risk of misplacing important documents? It works in your office just as well as at your home desk – give it a try!

These six tips might help you get started:

  1. Make a plan
Just starting somewhere in the middle won’t get you far. It won’t be long before you’ve given up because you have lost track of what you have done and what’s still waiting to be done.
  2. Start slowly
You don’t have to (re-)organise your whole office within 2 days. Start with scanning receipts from last week, for example, instead of trying to scan every single one you have at once. ScanSnap Receipt  is the perfect app for this!
  3. Be determined!
If you’re hesitating because you think you might still need all that paper – be honest with yourself. When was the last time you had a look at your 10-year-old receipts or your bank statement from April 2012? Scan and toss what you haven’t looked at in more than 6 months – you clearly don’t need it (except for documents you obviously need as an original, like a birth certificate for example).
  4. Establish routine
Instead of piling up your documents, scan them straight away. It will save you lots of time and, most importantly, lots of frustration (except if you want to start all over again this time next year!).
  5. Organise your computer
We tend to focus on the clutter around us and forget about the chaos that we have right in front of us on our PCs. Start creating folders – with ScanSnap you can scan documents to your preferred folder straight away. You’ll be surprised how fast you have all your documents where they belong!
  6. Don’t print so much
Stop printing everything. Some people prefer to read something on a piece of paper instead of reading it on a PC or mobile device, but printing doesn’t only cost time, it also costs money and creates unnecessary clutter.

PS: When you’re through with everything, not only will you feel relieved because you managed to fulfill your New Year’s resolution, you’ll also have the soothing feeling of helping to save a tree or two if you keep up the routine.

And in case you’re planning to get a ScanSnap for your business in 2016, get it before March 31st – that’s how long our ScanSnap Enterprise Innovation Campaign is running. With a little luck you might win up to £35,000 for your business!
