How do I reduce resolution with my ScanSnap S1500?

When you install the ScanSnap S1500 for the first time, the quality setting is set to Auto; however, operators can manually change the resolution to produce a smaller PDF file size in color, grayscale or black and white.

First, click on the ScanSnap icon in your system tray to open ScanSnap Manager and go to the “Scanning” tab.  Change “Image Quality” from “Auto” to “Normal.”

You can further reduce the file size be scanning documents in black and white rather than in 24-bit color.  Change “Color Mode” to “B&W” to force ScanSnap to scan all documents only in black and white.  In this example, an 8.5″ x 11″ document with heavy text was reduced from 419 KB to about 76 KB.  If color scanning is preferred, operators can use the compression slider located on the “Compression” tab to further compress files produced in color.

As an alternative to this, ScanSnap S1500 also comes with Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and operators can perform an OCR on the scanned document from within Acrobat which will also further compress the PDF file.
