Achieving a paperless office
Do you find yourself buried in paper in your office? Is your desk a place for clutter and messy paper piles? This is not an uncommon situation for many offices around the world, despite many efforts to strive for a paperless office environment.
Historically, achieving a paperless office (and scanning items) was driven by archiving requirements. We now also see an increase in people wanting to have better access to their documents on the go. Arguably, it is this “access anywhere, anytime” which is a main priority for office workers.
Brooks Duncan at documentsnap.com looks at how people achieve their scanning and paper requirements. He says: “It definitely pays off when you are first looking at going paperless to take some time with organization. What a lot of people do is they go out and buy a scanner and then start scanning their documents. They replace their physical paper mess with a digital mess!”
But what can help? The ScanSnap iX500 has been noted in a recent article on the BBC online. Its features of allowing for the ability to scan wirelessly to iOS and Android mobile devices have been highlighted, as has its re-engineered GI chip on board which allows for image correction work (normally actioned via a computer). It also interacts smoothly with software like Evernote or Dropbox, which takes personal document management to a new level.
Michael Sidejas (from Fujitsu) was quoted in the article, saying: “The processor has to be fast enough not to stand in the way of ad hoc scanning. With scan to mobile [you] lift the lid on the scanner and can scan immediately to our mobile app. It takes about 12 to 15 seconds”.
